A former marketing exec and ghostwriter, Nekisha melds many different talents into supporting families and creating written works that heal and inspire. Nekisha fell into her passion for supporting mothers and babies through her own breastfeeding challenges with her first baby. She quickly came to realize how having informed, caring support throughout one's journey can make all the difference between reaching breastfeeding goals and never coming close.

Today, we highlight another Mama, Crystal crystaltennilleirby, who is the mother of 4, 3 boys and 1 girl, and identifies as a Black Mother Creative, an artist who creates work across multiple artist disciplines that centers on Black women and mothering. She is a poetry slam grand slam champion, published author and actress.

Crystal was a member of the international poetry collective, Colors of the Diaspora, which was comprised of female artists from the U. She traveled to South Africa and performed in the premiere of the original multi-lingual theater piece, Colors of the Diaspora, at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. Crystal was a contributing writer for For Harriet. Beyond poetry and spoken word, Crystal works with Speaking Down Barriers and facilitates a monthly workshop entitled Healing Us for Black people to discuss the process of healing from race and gender trauma.
She is a member of the board of Hub City Writers Project a non-profit press, which publishes well-crafted, high-quality works by new and established authors, with an emphasis on the Southern experience. Today, we highlight Chloe Kim who is competing in the Olympics this year! At 17, Chloe Kim became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal during the Winter Games. The dynamic duo made up of Yesika Salgado and Angela Aguirre will share why it is important to have womxn share their own stories through art and will teach a poetry workshop to get us started!

Today's inspirational womxn is Ibtihaj Muhammad, who is an American sabre fencer, and a member of the United States fencing team. She is best known for being the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the United States in the Olympics.
Mattel introduced a Barbie in Hijab, which is designed after Ibtihaj and she is the Promotional presenter of the Barbie as well. She is also one of 23 people who have achieved the so-called Triple Crown of Acting, with individual competitive Academy, Emmy and Tony awards for acting. Moreno has won numerous other awards, including various lifetime achievement awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor.
Time Magazine named Omar among its "Firsts: Women who are changing the world", a special project on 46 women who have broken barriers in their respective disciplines, and featured her on the cover of its September 18 issue to mark the panel. Her ambitious community outreach program, ICICI Digital Village, brought vocational training to over 11, villagers in 17 states in India and provided financial tools to aspiring entrepreneurs. The program expects to reach more villages by year's end. Kochhar made history again in September when she took the bank's insurance business public, the first IPO of a general insurer in India. Our inspirational womxn for the month of February is Malala Yousafzai, who is a Pakistani activist for female education and is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. She is also known for human rights advocacy, especially the education of womxn and children. You can learn more about Malala by visiting the WRC and checking out our bulletin board in the front room! This space would be for anyone who identifies as a mother to talk and share their experiences with each other in a supportive environment.

El-Rayis 9 In conclusion, the experience of these women is universal as being a hyphenated person becomes the rule rather than the exception in the mutli-cultural trend the globe is directed to. However, their experience is painful as they belong to two opposing cultures.
Writing about their traumatic experience has been difficult and nerve-racking as they have been put in some critical situations where they have to choose between their two cultures.
